Does this look like
the road to paradise, or what?! A coconut grove is called a "huerta
de cocos", and this is the huerta at Playa Larga. There are numerous
endless huertas of coconut plantations all along our coast, which
is known as "La Costa Grande". |
| This is one of my
favorite restaurants for hanging out at Playa Larga called "Popeye's";
remember, "e" sounds like a long "a" so we
say po-PAY-es ... seriously! |

Playa Larga means
"long beach", and as you can see this beach is quite long.
So long, in fact, that the far end has another name: Playa Blanca.
About 9½ miles of unspoiled beach here. Think you can find
a spot? |
| The hill to the left
is the end of Playa Larga /Playa Blanca known as el Cerro de Guamilule
where you'll find a laguna and the small village of Barra de Potosí.
Put end-to-end with the above photo and you get a good idea of
the length of this beach. The islands to the right are guano-covered
islands called Los Morros de Potosí. A good diving & fishing
area! |

To the left Lupita
& I are standing next to the mouth of a spring (manantial) which
emerges from beneath this giant parota tree. This is possibly the
oldest & largest of its kind left in our area since the Spaniards
cleared all our forests to sell overseas in Asia & Europe around
400 years ago. |

This is one of the
many spectacular views you can enjoy from the footpath between Playa
Las Gatas and the lighthouse. If you go there be sure to take a camera.
Also, as you approach the lighthouse give a hearty hail to the lighthouse
keeper so that you don't walk up on him and scare the bejeezus out
of him during his siesta. |

| Days drift by slowly
on the beach! You'll find palapas like these in front of many hotels
and restaurants. This photo was taken at Playa La Ropa in Zihuatanejo. |

If you walk between
La Ropa Beach & town you'll enjoy many views like this one taken
from above Playa Madera. Here you can see the Playa Municipal which
is the town beachfront in Zihuatanejo. There's a footpath along the
waterfront you can follow between Playa Madera and the Playa Municipal. |

| This is one of the
lancheros who operate water taxis between the Municipal Pier and Playa
Las Gatas. One of our many unsung heros! |

"Roberto!" took this great shot of La Ropa Beach while dangling
under a parachute being hauled around the bay by a speedboat. Part
of La Casa Que Canta can be seen to the extreme left. Villa de la
Roca is the white building with the red roof to the left on the top
of the cliff. The "mushroom" building near the center of
the photo is part of Casa Que Canta (part of which is also visible
to the extreme left), and the Sotavento and Catalina hotels above
Playa La Ropa are visible right behind it. |

| Every
morning the local fishermen display their catch on the beach at Playa
Municipal in Zihuatanejo. You'll find a wide variety of the freshest,
most delicious seafood in the world here. |
